3 Steps Closer To That #1 Spot On Google

There are two things that can be done to your page that will push it up higher in search results on Google and other search engines. This is called Search Engine Optimization. Not very many people know about these slight changes you can make to your page, but they are very important, and we know for a fact that they work.

Log in to your account and you will be on your Home page. Click on the Personal Information link in the left column and fill out the section for Tagline.

What you enter for your Tagline will depend on whether or not you will actually be displaying your Tagline on your page using the About Me module.

If you are using your Tagline primarily for search engine reasons, you should just list keywords about your page. The tags should be specific and you should post the most important words first. These tags act as a description for your page, so make them accurate and relevant. You should also capitalize the first letter of each word. This tagline appears as your page description when Google and other search engines pick up your page.

For those of you who do have a tagline displayed on your page in the About Me module, you should just enter whatever text you would like to display as your tagline, since this of course will be visible to the people who visit your page.

In addition to adding a tagline, the most important addition to your page will be 500 words of original copy somewhere on the page. Unfortunately a blog does not count for this, so if you do write a blog, make sure you add this additional text to your page as well. When the search engines scrape the web for results, they look for originality. They will be more likely to pick up your page and move it to the top if you have this original copy. Also keep in mind that copying text from another webpage will actually push you further down in search results. Your page is actually penalized for having duplicate copy. Anything on your page helps as long as it is original. I would recommend adding a bio to your page by using the Custom Text Module. This is how you add any sort of text to your page.

You don’t have to add a bio to your page obviously, any original copy will work. Many people have personal quotes on their page, a description of their photography, videos, etc.

Adding these two things to your page will be very advantageous for you in having your page appear higher in the list in search results.

These are 2 SEO items that are very important for your page. I know there are more that aren't listed, so feel free to post in the comments section with any other ideas.

The third item is something we already do for you with your blog. Each time you publish a new post we automatically send out your new post to the top blog aggregation/syndication sites such as Google, Technorati, Feed Burner, and 31 other sites. This ensures that people will be able to locate your blog on the top sites for blogs.
